The Smith Center for the Performing Arts Celebrates the Winter Season with Linda Eder Holiday Concert, 11/9

In the midst of holiday festivities and welcomed cooler weather, The Smith Center for the Performing Arts is celebrating the season with a special gift to the people of Las Vegas. On Dec. 9 at 6 p.m., The Smith Center will host a holiday concert with singer and famed Broadway actress Linda Eder in Symphony Park.

The “Star Search” alum and Drama Desk Award-nominee will delight audiences with a special concert of favorite holiday tunes and seasonal classics. Known for her starring role in Frank Wildhorn’s Broadway production of “Jekyll & Hyde,” Eder will be the first to perform at The Smith Center’s 1.7-acre Symphony Park. Her full-length holiday album, “Christmas Stays the Same,” is a bestseller and a favorite among critics featuring handpicked holiday favorites such as "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town," "Silent Night," and "Little Drummer Boy."

Located on The Smith Center campus, Symphony Park will be adorned in festive holiday décor and its soaring 35-foot-tall palm trees will be strung with holiday lights. A traditional 23-foot Christmas tree, festooned in 11,500 warm white lights perched in the west end of the park, will provide the perfect backdrop for the holidays and will remain up through the end of the year. Patrons are encouraged to bring a blanket and enjoy the complimentary concert alongside family in the charming park setting. Refreshments and light fare will be available for purchase.

“This is the start to a new holiday tradition here in Las Vegas and there’s no better place to enjoy a seasonal concert than Symphony Park,” said MyRon Martin, president and CEO of The Smith Center. “We are especially grateful to Janice Allen for generously underwriting this inaugural holiday event.”

General admission tickets are free but must be reserved in advance at The Smith Center Box Office, located at 361 Symphony Park Ave., or online at www.TheSmithCenter.com/holidayconcert. Reserved tables alongside the park sidewalks with food & beverage service are available for purchase for $50 per attendee or $600 per table by reserving online or by calling 702-749-2000.

No outside food & beverage is allowed inside Symphony Park. Out of respect for fellow concert-goers, lawn chairs must be low profile with legs no higher than four inches off the ground and chair backs no higher than 27 inches off the ground. Blankets are limited to beach towel size. General admission ticket limit of six per order.

Throughout the winter season, The Smith Center is offering a festive roster of holiday entertainment including internationally-renowned pianist Danny Wright “Home for Christmas,” performing his three newly-updated Christmas CDs with special guest The Mirage’s Terry Fator on Dec. 2 at 2 p.m.; Clint Holmes “Holmes for the Holidays,” on Dec. 7 and 8 at 8:30 p.m. and Dec. 9 at 2 p.m., featuring wife Kelly Clinton-Holmes, granddaughter Asia and vocal group "Fifth Avenue;” a holiday program by the Las Vegas Philharmonic entitled, “Pops II – A Very Vegas Holiday,” on Dec. 8 at 2 and 8 p.m. with special guests Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman and Former Mayor Oscar B. Goodman narrating “A Night Before Christmas;” “The DeAna Martin Christmas Show” on Dec. 14 and 15 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. featuring the soundtrack of the holiday season including “Silver Bells,” “Winter Wonderland,” “The Christmas Song,” and a newly recorded duet of “White Christmas;” “The Nutcracker,” a brand-new, original production featuring new sets, costumes and surprises by the Nevada Ballet Theatre from Dec. 15 to Dec. 23; and Dave Koz and Friends Christmas Tour 2012 on Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m., featuring Grammy®-nominated pianist and composer David Benoit, winner of NBC’s “The Voice” Javier Colon, drummer and vocalist Sheila E. and singer/songwriter Margo Rey.
