Shania Twain Proves She's 'Still The One' With A Beautiful Show

Shania Twain had been absent from performing for eight years. Her return, quite appropriately in a show called Shania Twain: Still The One, came December 1 when she opened at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace. There, she shares he 4,200-seat theater with Celine Dion, Elton John and Rod Stewart and, in this excellent company, her show proves equal to them all. And with a huge stage she can pretty much do as she wishes. And, it seems, she wished for a beautiful show.

Twain enters on a motorcycle that we first see suspended in the air and dressed in a sequined jumpsuit The entrance occasioned a standing ovation. The audience loved her and she, clearly, loved the audience right back. She is accompanied by a nine-piece band, three backup singers including her sister Carrie-Ann Brown and three dancers. All were very strong but, for the first time in my experience in that venue, the acoustics failed the star.

Too often, Twain’s voice was either drowned out or, simply, wasn’t clear. Thus, if you didn’t know the words to the songs, you had a slim chance of understanding them. That hasn’t  been the case with any of the other shows at the Colosseum.

Twain has said in numerous interviews and at a press conference that the concept of the show is all hers. Director Raj Kapoor realized that concept beautifully. There’s a western town set, complete with saloon,  a leopard whose fur matches Twain’s costume and, even, a leopard that, even though it doesn’t happen, one wouldn’t be surprised if the star led it out on a leash.

In chats with the audience, Twain talked about how happy she is to be back on stage, how involved she was in creating the show and, even, explained — with appropriate music — how her sister Carrie Ann got her name

It’s a beautiful show to watch and she sang songs the true fans in the audience knew: I'm Gonna Getcha Good!, You Win My Love, Don't Be Stupid (You Know I Love You), Up!, Don't!, I Ain't No Quitter, No One Needs To Know, Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?, Any Man of Mine, The Woman In Mem That Don't Impress Me Much, Honey, I'm Home, (If You're Not in It for Love) I'm Outta Here!, Carrie Anne / Come On Over / Rock This Country! / Today Is Your Day, You're Still the One, From This Moment On (Encore) Man! I Feel Like a Woman!

Shania Twain: Still The One will play several weeks of performances over the next two years, alternating with other regulars in the Colosseum. It is a beautiful show put on by a company that loves to perfor,. See it if you can.

Tickets for the show range in price from $55 to $250 and are available online at http://www.ticketmaster.com/venueartist/360451/764367?brand=Shania&brand=shania.
